Scorpian Console Table

The Scorpion Console is one of those rare designs that arrives fully resolved in a single moment of clarity, I had been thinking for a long time about how to make a console table from a single continuous form, one unbroken gesture of metal that rose from the floor and carried the top in one fluid, uninterrupted movement, and the answer when it came was immediate and obvious. A broad, angled blade of steel rises from a weighted rectangular plinth, bends sharply at the midpoint like a coiled joint, then drives upward and outward to support the full length of the tabletop in a breathtaking cantilever,  the whole form suggesting the taut, angular energy of a scorpion’s tail poised at the moment before it strikes. Every face of the steel has been worked by hand and finished in brass, a surface that shifts from bright, burnished gold where the light catches the raised planes to deeper, more complex tones in the recesses, giving the piece a sculptural depth that changes entirely depending on the angle from which it is viewed. There are no legs, no apron, no conventional structure
