Berlin Console Table
Console TablesThe Berlin Console was conceived during a period of deep fascination with the structural expressionism of post-war German architecture, those extraordinary buildings where the engineering is not hidden behind a skin of cladding but celebrated openly, where diagonal braces and tension members become the defining visual language of the whole. The base is a composition of deliberate, considered asymmetry, two vertical legs on the left connected by a small horizontal ladder detail and a beautifully resolved elliptical leaf form, while from the right a pair of curved diagonal struts sweep down to the floor in a wide, confident arc, the whole structure held in a tension that feels both engineered and entirely intuitive. It is a base that rewards time and close attention, revealing new relationships and details the longer you look, the junction where the diagonals meet the apron, the precision of the leaf form against the vertical legs, the way the entire composition reads as a single resolved thought despite its apparent complexity. Finished in brass, the warm, mellow tones of the metalwork give the structural forms a richness and material presence that keeps the piece firmly in the territory of luxury rather than industry. The black slate top sits above with absolute authority, its deep, dark surface a perfect foil to the golden warmth below.
