Delta Console Table

The Delta Console was born in the studio during a period of intense drawing, filling page after page with shards and planes and angular fragments, trying to capture on paper the explosive energy of a moment of impact, the split second when a solid form shatters into a constellation of flat, spinning pieces. The base is the realisation of that pursuit in forged steel, a dense, three dimensional composition of triangular and trapezoidal planes, each one hammered to a rich, varied surface and set at its own angle to the others, the whole assembly suspended within a clean rectangular frame in a composition of extraordinary tension and visual energy. No element is parallel to its neighbour, every plane catches the light differently, and the depth of the base, the way the pieces layer and overlap as you move along it, reveals new relationships and compositions from every angle. The heavily worked surfaces drink up the flamed bronze finish with a darkness and complexity that grounds the dynamic composition, preventing it from feeling decorative and keeping it firmly in the territory of serious sculptural furniture. The limestone top above is the one moment of absolute stillness, long, pale and uncompromisingly horizontal, making the drama beneath all the more explosive by contrast.
