The Rosemont Coffee Table began with the stone, a slab of Nero Marquina marble of such extraordinary depth and visual drama that the only honest design response was to get out of its way entirely and let it speak for itself. The base is a deliberate act of restraint, two clean symmetrical shaped supports of smooth faced steel, finished in gold leaf and kept as minimal and unobtrusive as structural integrity allows, their sole purpose to elevate the stone to precisely the right height and hold it there with quiet, confident authority. And the stone rewards that restraint magnificently, a thick slab of Nero Marquina, its jet black ground electrified by a bold network of white and silver veining that cuts across the surface with the force and energy of a brushstroke, the exceptional thickness of the top giving the piece a monolithic weight and presence that transforms it from a coffee table into something closer to a fragment of landscape brought indoors. The gold leaf base glows beneath the dark stone with a warmth that creates a pairing of maximum contrast and maximum elegance, black and gold, mass and delicacy, nature and craft in perfect, considered balance.
