Carlton Hall Table
Console TablesThe Carlton Hallway Table draws its inspiration from the great guéridon tables of eighteenth century France, those magnificent circular centrepiece tables that anchored the grandest salons and entrance halls of the ancien régime, their swept bases and scrolled details speaking of a world in which the decorative arts were taken with the utmost seriousness. Four curved legs sweep downward from the circular apron in a generous, outward arc before drawing inward and being gathered together at the centre by a decorative ring, a detail of real craft and classical learning that references the stretchers of the finest antique furniture whilst arriving at something entirely resolved and contemporary in its execution. Small scroll details at the point where each leg meets the apron add a further layer of decorative intelligence, the curled terminals catching the gold leaf finish with a particular warmth and precision. Finished throughout in gold leaf, the hand applied surface glows with a richness and depth that polished or painted metalwork cannot approach, the natural variation in the gilding giving the piece a quality that suggests age and provenance rather than newness. The circular Carrara marble top, its cool white ground threaded with fine grey veining, crowns the composition with a material of unimpeachable classical pedigree.
