Clasp Console Table
Console TablesThe Clasp Console was inspired by the structural columns of modernist architecture, those buildings where the supports are not hidden but celebrated, brought to the outside of the structure and given a visual weight and rhythm that defines the character of the whole. Two groups of flat, vertical fins form the legs of the piece, each cluster rising from the floor in tight, parallel formation before meeting the underside of the top in a series of individual brackets that clasp the stone above with a precision that gives the piece its name. The effect from the front is of extraordinary graphic strength, the repeated golden verticals creating a rhythm and depth that draws the eye and holds it, the spaces between the fins casting dramatic shadows that shift and deepen throughout the day as the light moves across the room. Finished in bitumen on brown, the warm, burnished tone of the gold leaf gives the rigidly geometric forms a richness and material presence that prevents the piece from ever feeling cold or purely architectural, this is geometry with warmth, structure with soul. The limestone top floats above the two clusters of fins with a satisfying weightlessness, its pale surface spanning the full width of the piece and uniting the two supports into a single, commanding whole.
