There is a discipline required to design something truly simple, and the Rectangular Smooth Console is the result of that discipline applied with absolute rigour, every unnecessary element removed, every joint resolved, every proportion considered until what remained was a form so clean and confident that it needs nothing else to justify its presence. Four square bar legs and a matching apron form a precise rectangular frame of quiet architectural authority, each surface carrying the finest suggestion of hand worked texture, not the bold, allover marking of our hammered pieces, but a subtle, almost imperceptible quality that reminds you this is metal shaped by human hands rather than machine, and that catches the flamed bronze finish with a delicacy and warmth that a truly smooth surface never could. The rich, complex tones of the bronzework move between deep brown, warm amber and cooler charcoal as the light shifts across the day, the natural variation of the hot metal process ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical. The limestone top completes the composition with characteristic understatement, its pale natural surface the perfect resting place for objects that deserve to be seen.
