Criss Cross Side Table

The Criss Cross Side Table grew from a fascination with the campaign furniture of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, those ingeniously engineered folding chairs and tables that accompanied officers and explorers on their travels, where the X-frame was not merely decorative but a solution of elegant structural logic. I wanted to take that timeless crossed form and render it in hand forged steel with the precision and permanence it deserved, stripping away any historical ornament to leave something that felt at once ancient in its references and entirely contemporary in its resolution. Two pairs of legs cross at the midpoint with a satisfying exactness, each one tapering to a sharp point at the floor and meeting the frame above with a clean, considered joint that speaks of real craft and care. Finished in flamed bronze, the warm, darkened tones of the metalwork sit in perfect harmony with the sandy, fossil-rich surface of the Jura Beige stone top.
