Viribus Console Table
Console TablesThe Viribus Console with its name taken from the Latin for strength, is a piece that wears its influences openly and proudly, drawing on the grand tradition of Egyptian Revival and Regency furniture where the paw foot was not merely decorative but a statement of power, permanence and classical learning. Four heavily hammered legs, their surfaces built up and worked with an intensity that gives the steel an almost geological, encrusted quality, descend to beautifully cast bronze paw feet that anchor the piece to the floor with a quiet but unmistakable authority. The frame’s raw, textured energy is held in perfect tension by the clean, horizontal lines of the overall form — brutalist in its surface treatment yet entirely disciplined in its proportions. The top is of Ashburton Stone, a rare and extraordinarily beautiful Devon marble of deep brown and black ground threaded with veins of gold and amber, quarried for centuries before the closure of its quarry made further extraction impossible.
