Melrose Coffee Table
Coffee TablesThe Melrose Coffee Table was born from a long fascination with the patterns found in natural fracture, the way stone splits along fault lines, the way mud cracks as it dries, the way ice breaks into irregular polygons across the surface of a frozen lake. Each of these processes produces a geometry that is simultaneously unpredictable and entirely logical, where no two cells are the same shape yet the overall composition has a coherence and completeness that feels inevitable. The apron of the Melrose translates that natural logic directly into hand forged steel, a full perimeter fretwork of irregular polygonal cells, each one slightly different in proportion and angle from its neighbours, the whole composition creating a dense, interlocking pattern that catches the flamed bronze finish with extraordinary richness and depth as the light plays across the varying angles of each cell wall. Viewed from across the room it reads as a bold, dark band of geometric texture beneath the top; up close it reveals a world of individual detail and craft that could only ever be made by hand. The light oak top above brings a warmth and natural grain that sits in beautiful contrast to the dark complexity of the bronze work below, pale and organic against deep and geometric.
