Aspen Coffee Table

The Aspen Coffee Table is a piece for those who find beauty in the unadorned and the elemental, a design that strips furniture back to its most honest components and lets the quality of the materials do the talking without interference or decoration. The base is a clean, low rectangular box frame of flat faced steel, its simple geometry kept entirely unembellished so that the eye travels directly to the material above, the flamed bronze finish giving the dark metal a warmth and depth that a purely industrial treatment could never achieve, the natural variation of the hot metal process ensuring a richness and complexity of tone across every face of the frame. The grey oak top is the centrepiece and the soul of the piece, its wide, characterful grain running the full length of the table in planks of genuine age and presence, the cool grey tones of the treated timber carrying traces of silver and charcoal that give the surface the quality of driftwood or weathered mountain timber. Set against the dark warmth of the flamed bronze below, the cool grey oak creates a pairing of elemental quiet beauty, two materials that have both been transformed by heat and time, speaking to each other across the surface of the table with a natural affinity that feels entirely unforced.
