Cecil Coffee Table

The Cecil Coffee Table is a piece that rewards the kind of slow, attentive looking that the best craft always deserves, a design of considered restraint whose full quality only becomes apparent the closer you examine it. The frame is a clean, open rectangle of heavily hammered steel, its allover pitted surface worked with an intensity that gives the flamed bronze finish a depth and complexity of extraordinary richness, deep, earthy tones of copper and dark brown shifting across the surface in a constant, living play of light that makes the metalwork feel almost geological in character. At each corner, a small stepped bracket detail clasps the limestone top with a precision that references both the corner pieces of fine bookbinding and the decorative bosses of ecclesiastical metalwork, a quiet flourish of considered design that elevates the piece above the merely functional and reveals the hand of a maker who cares about every detail, however small. The lower stretcher rail, running the full length of the piece at mid-height, adds a structural rhythm that anchors the design and gives the open frame a visual completeness without adding unnecessary weight. The limestone top, its pale fossil rich surface a perfect counterpoint to the deep, warm bronze work beneath, completes the Cecil with characteristic natural beauty.
