Demi Lune Console Table

The Demi Lune Console is the result of a pursuit that occupied the studio for a considerable time, the question of how little structure a console table actually needs, and how far the legs could be reduced in section before the piece ceased to feel like furniture and became something closer to a drawing in space. The answer is here: four legs of almost implausible slenderness, each one tapering to a fine point at the floor, carrying the weight of a full limestone top with a confidence that defies expectation and stops people in their tracks the first time they see it. The semicircular form of the top is one of the great classical shapes in furniture, gentle, unhurried and instantly at home against a wall, and here it is elevated to something altogether more contemporary by the extraordinary delicacy of the base beneath it. A fine hammered texture runs the length of each leg and around the curved apron, catching the flamed bronze finish with a warmth and subtlety that shifts beautifully in changing light.
