Newark Console Table

The Newark Console was born from a desire to reinterpret one of the most enduring and elegant forms in furniture history, the Demi Lune Console, through the precise, graphic language of modern metalwork. Two pairs of flat rectangular bars form a pair of minimal trestle legs, each one a clean, upright rectangular frame that rises from a low foot and meets the underside of the top with a crispness and simplicity that feels entirely contemporary, yet the angled limestone top above them carries centuries of classical precedent in its gentle, unhurried shape. It is that conversation between the rigidly geometric and the soft shape that gives the Newark its particular character, a piece that feels at once architectural and graceful, disciplined and warm. Finished in bitumen on brown, the metalwork glows with a depth and richness that sits in beautiful harmony with the pale limestone top, the warmth of the gilded tone lifting the clean white stone and preventing the composition from ever feeling cold.
